The challenge
Kazi coordinated a fleet of 300 drivers through WhatsApp groups and a shared spreadsheet. Dispatchers re-keyed every job by hand, drivers missed assignments, and nobody could answer where a shipment actually was without making three phone calls.
What we did
- 01Two weeks of ride-alongs with dispatchers and drivers before writing any code, which reframed the problem from 'build an app' to 'remove re-keying'.
- 02A React Native driver app with offline-first job queues, because coverage drops for hours on upcountry routes.
- 03An operations dashboard with live vehicle positions, backed by an event-sourced job model that gives every shipment a complete audit trail.
- 04Phased rollout by depot, with the old process running in parallel until each depot's numbers beat it.
The result
Dispatch time per job fell from around 11 minutes to under 4. The operations team handles roughly triple the volume with the same headcount, and customer service can answer location questions without calling a driver.
“They spent two weeks in our depots before they wrote a line of code. It shows in every screen — the app fits how our drivers actually work.”
